Project name: Mong Duong 1 Thermal Power Plant (2x500MW)

Investor: Electricity of Vietnam (EVN).

General contractor: Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd

Location: Mong Duong Ward, Cam Pha Town, Quang Ninh Province.

Capacity: 2x540MW

Description:

Mong Duong 1 thermal power plant has two units with a total installed capacity of 1,080 MW, annual electricity output of 6.5 billion kWh; was built on an area of 55ha in Zone 3, Mong Duong ward, Cam Pha town, Quang Ninh province.

When put into operation, the plant will generate electricity to the national grid via Mong Duong dual-circuit 500kV line, 500kV Quang Ninh substation.

The plant uses coal fuel, traditional steam condensate thermal power technology, subcritical steam parameters, Circulating Fluidized Boiler (CFB) technology, suitable for low quality Antracite coals of Vietnam, found in large coal mines in Quang Ninh. Coal consumption demand for Mong Duong 1 Thermal Power Plant is about 3 million tons of coal/year.

As planned, unit 1 will be completed and put into commercial operation after 40 months (Q1/2015), unit 2 will be put into operation after 46 months (expected quarter 3/2015).

When the plant is put into operation, it will contribute to enhancing the power supply capacity of the national power system, and at the same time contribute to promoting socio-economic development in the Northeast key economic region of Vietnam.
